We often talk about Cornwall’s beaches, coastal walks and seafood, but one of our favourite ways to spend an afternoon takes us in a different direction altogether.
Scattered across the Cornish countryside are vineyards producing some of England’s most celebrated wines. Discover family-run estates, relaxed tastings, long lunches overlooking the vines and a warm welcome that encourages you to stay a little longer...
Whether you’re celebrating something special or simply fancy discovering another side to Cornwall, these are the vineyards we’d happily recommend.
Camel Valley Vineyard

If you’ve ever enjoyed a glass of Cornish sparkling wine, there’s a good chance it came from Camel Valley. Tucked into the gentle slopes above the River Camel, this family-run vineyard has been producing award-winning wines for over 30 years and remains one of our favourite places to visit.
Tours take you through the vineyard and winery before finishing with a guided tasting, but if you’re short on time, we’d simply suggest settling onto the terrace with a glass of their classic Brut. Looking out across the vines with the Camel Valley beyond, it’s easy to while away an hour or two.
Where: Nanstallon, near Bodmin
We love: hiring bikes on the Camel Trail in the morning, then rewarding ourselves with a tasting afterwards.
Knightor Winery

If your holidays are planned around good food as much as beautiful places, Knightor is well worth the drive.
Set within beautifully restored granite barns, the winery has a wonderfully welcoming feel. Alongside tours and tastings, they host seasonal lunches and food experiences that showcase the best of Cornwall’s produce, all thoughtfully paired with their wines.
It feels less like a visitor attraction and more like being welcomed into someone’s home.
Where: Trethurgy, near St Austell
We love: one of their food and wine pairing events, especially if you’re celebrating.
Trevibban Mill Vineyard

A little outside Padstow, Trevibban Mill feels wonderfully laid-back. The vines wrap around the restaurant, there’s usually plenty happening in the winery, and the atmosphere is relaxed enough that you’ll never feel rushed.
Their wines are organic, the food celebrates local produce and, on a sunny afternoon, the terrace is one of our favourite spots for lunch. It’s equally lovely for a leisurely meal or simply sharing a bottle with friends before heading back to the coast.
Where: Near Padstow
We love: booking a late lunch and letting the afternoon unfold at its own pace.
The Atlantic Vineyard

For something a little different, The Atlantic Vineyard offers a quieter experience. One of Cornwall’s newer vineyards, it’s built around sustainable growing and small-batch wines, with beautiful countryside views that invite you to slow down for a while.
If you’re looking to venture beyond the better-known names, it’s a lovely place to discover.
Where: Near Newquay
We love: picking up a bottle to enjoy back at the house that evening.
Top tip...
If you can, we’d recommend booking one of the later tastings. By then the vineyards have usually quietened down, the afternoon takes on a more relaxed pace and there’s no rush to be anywhere else. Take your time over one last glass before heading back to the coast.
