There are few pleasures greater than starting the day with a still-warm pastry and a good coffee. Over the years, we’ve discovered a handful of bakeries and cafés that have become firm favourites; places worth making a detour for, whether you’re heading to the beach, exploring the coast path or simply taking things slowly. Here are the ones we return to time and time again.
Fee’s

Our favourite artisan coffee spot, Fee’s is always warm, welcoming and worth lingering over. Whether it’s a rainy morning spent reading by the window or a quick stop before heading down to the beach, it feels like a little pocket of calm in the heart of Rock.
Where: Rock
We love: Granola, gluten-free brownies and coffee
Parking: Limited parking outside on a first-come, first-served basis
Flo’s Kitchen

A firm favourite with locals and visitors alike, Flo’s Kitchen has become Polzeath’s go-to for excellent coffee, pastries and easy lunches. Choose between the beachside location in Polzeath for a post-surf refuel, or the Trebetherick café when you’re passing through.
Where: Polzeath and Trebetherick
We love: Crab sandwiches and sausage rolls
Parking: Public parking available on Polzeath Beach
Malcolm Barnecutt’s

No bakery round-up would be complete without a 'Barnies'. It’s best known for its legendary pasties, but it’s the fresh salads, toasted paninis and daily bakes that keep us coming back. We even source their sourdough for our welcome hampers.
Where: Rock
We love: Steak pasties and toasted paninis
Parking: Yes
Prideaux Walled Garden

Tucked away behind the bustle of Padstow, Prideaux Walled Garden feels like a hidden discovery. Wander down a quiet side street and you’ll find a charming bothy serving filtered coffee, homemade cakes and cold drinks, all surrounded by beautiful blooms.
Where: Padstow
We love: The homemade cakes and seasonal flowers
Parking: No, but you can park at Rock Quarry Car Park and catch the ferry across to Padstow
The Cornish Bakery

Just moments from Padstow Harbour, The Cornish Bakery is one of those places that always seems to draw you in. Serving Origin coffee alongside shelves laden with pastries, buns and sweet treats, it’s an easy choice for a relaxed morning by the water.
Where: Padstow
We love: Whatever pastry has just come out of the oven
Parking: No, but you can park at Rock Quarry Car Park and catch the ferry across to Padstow
From coffee on a rainy morning to pastries tucked under your arm on the way to the beach, these are the places we find ourselves seeking out whenever we’re nearby. Good coffee, warm pastries and a slower pace of life never go out of style.
