From post-surf soaks to starlit winter evenings, there’s something rather special about slipping into a steaming hot tub after a day on the Cornish coast.
Perhaps it’s the contrast. Warming up after a surf at Polzeath, coming home windswept from the coast path or staying outside long after the sun has gone down.
In summer, it’s drinks balanced on the side before dinner. Come the colder months, steam rises into the cool air and the water feels all the more inviting.
Here are a few of our favourite places to take a dip.
After the surf

In Polzeath and New Polzeath, days tend to fall into step with the sea. Mornings start with a look at the surf and plans are easily rearranged when the conditions are good.
At Sea Jade, come back through the garden from the coast path, leave the boards in the surf locker and rinse off beneath a heated outdoor shower before heading for the hot tub.
Over at Kai-Tak, a sunken Jacuzzi and private gym make the post-surf ritual a little more indulgent. Soothe tired legs in the bubbles, then settle in for an evening at home.
Stay for sunset

Summer evenings in North Cornwall have a habit of stretching on. Dinner gets pushed a little later, someone opens a bottle and suddenly there seems very little reason to go inside.
At Wyndcliffe, set above Polzeath's cliffs, we’d head for the hot tub as the last of the light disappears, before wrapping up and watching the evening settle over the bay.
For something more romantic, First and Last is a character-filled cottage tucked into Port Isaac, with gorgeous vistas over the harbour. Spend the day exploring the village before heading home for a soak and an evening à deux.
For bigger gatherings, The Terrace is made for evenings at home. Fire up the barbecue, light the candles and drift between supper outside and the hot tub.
When the weather turns

We’d argue hot tubs are even better when Cornwall gets a little wilder.
Walk Pentire Point when the wind is up, brave a cold-water dip at Daymer Bay or watch the waves roll into Polzeath, then head home to warm water and steam rising into the evening.
At Torquil, a stone's throw from the soft curve of Daymer Bay, the wellness annexe pairs its hot tub with a sauna. We think it might be at its best on a crisp winter day when you have the beach almost to yourself.
Under the stars

Away from the towns, North Cornwall experiences true dark nights. On a clear evening, phones disappear, conversations stretch on and another drink gets poured.
A post-surf soak while the wetsuits drip nearby. Children splashing before supper. Two glasses balanced on the side as the stars come out. Quite often, it’s the unplanned moments you remember.
