What's on: North Cornwall festivals 2026

Alice James 31 March 2026

As the seasons shift, Cornwall gathers in harbours, on clifftops and across sun-warmed fields. We share a few of our favourite festivals to mark in the diary, all within easy reach of Rock.

Padstow May Day (‘Obby ‘Oss), Padstow

Dates: 1st May
Distance from Rock: 10 minutes (via ferry)

What we love:
A day that feels steeped in history. The streets fill early, lined with white, greenery and anticipation, before the ‘Obby ‘Oss appears and the town shifts into celebration. It’s lively and crowded, but full of character and unlike anything else you’ll experience in Cornwall.

Porthleven Food Festival, Porthleven (worth the journey)

Dates: 24 - 26 April 2026
Distance from Rock: ~1 hr 20 mins

What we love:
Set around a working harbour, this one feels raw and full of life. Pans sizzle, music spills out across the quay, and the scent of something good is never far away. It’s worth making a day of it, before returning north to quieter evenings by the sea.

St Ives Food & Drink Festival, Porthminster Beach

Dates: 15th - 17th May 2026
Distance from Rock: ~1 hour

What we love:
There’s something special about this setting. Sand beneath your feet, the sea just beyond and a festival that unfolds at its own pace. Drift between beachside stalls and cooking demonstrations, with plenty of time to pause and take it all in.

Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival, Falmouth

Dates: 12th - 14th June 2026
Distance from Rock: ~1 hour

What we love:
Voices carry across the water, drifting between harbourside pubs and open quays. It's informal and atmospheric, with moments that catch you unexpectedly as you wander through the town. One to dip into and take your time with.

Rock Oyster Festival, Rock

Dates: 23rd - 26th July 2026
Distance from Rock: 5 minutes

What we love:
Right on your doorstep, nestled beside the Camel Estuary, it’s an easy one for families to enjoy together. There’s space to roam, plenty to keep little ones entertained, and a relaxed feel that lets you dip in and out at your own pace. Stay for a while, then head back as the day winds down.

Boardmasters, Newquay

Dates: 5th - 9th August 2026
Distance from Rock: ~40 minutes

What we love:
Perched above Watergate Bay and Fistral Beach, this is where surf and sound come together. There’s a buzz to it, but the open coastal setting keeps it grounded. Spend a few hours taking it all in, then leave the crowds behind and head back to calmer surroundings.

Port Isaac Shanty Weekend, Port Isaac

Dates: 3rd - 4th October 2026
Distance from Rock: 20 minutes

What we love:
Smaller this year and held in the village hall, which gives it a different kind of charm. It feels close and personal, with voices filling the room and a sense of shared tradition. Afterwards, step outside to the harbour and let everything slow again.

Whether you plan your stay around one of these dates or simply stumble across them while you’re here, they add an extra spark to a North Cornwall stay, all the better when you can return to your own space by the coast.
